But did you know he had nearly quit the industry after facing a boycott from the industry? This happened after his fallout with Sanjay Dutt, his friend who worked with him in most of his movies including his directorial debut Aatish: Feel The Fire.

In a new interview with RJ Siddharth Kanan, the ace filmmaker spilled the beans on how the entire Bollywood industry boycotted him after a feud with Dutt, which propelled only because of misunderstanding. "I think what went wrong were the people around us. There were people around us who tried to create too many misunderstandings. We didn’t speak to each other for four years. But we never spoke ill about each other," he said.?

He added, "People had stopped taking my calls because they were saying that Sanjay Dutt has said ‘don’t work with him’, which Sanjay never said."

As Dutt and Gupta both attended the party, they crossed paths with each other. It was awkward until the Munna Bhai actor called him, they instantly hugged, cried and let bygones be bygones. "I took a stand. I said we won’t do two things. We won’t drink together and we won’t work together. Now both of us are hungry, desperately searching for the right script," he said.?

Talking about Vivek Oberoi who was going through a rough patch in his career until he made a comeback in the industry with Gupta's Shootout at Lokhandwala, he called the actor ungrateful for rejecting to be a part of Dus Kahaniyaan citing?the reason as "my career is going in a certain way. I don’t think I should do an anthology."

The filmmaker made up his mind that he would never work with Oberoi again but he called him expressing his wish to collaborate. Gupta narrated the script of Shootout at Wadala to him, he loved the script and cried saying he was back home. However, after the announcement was made, he backed out of the project. Apparently, Sanjay Dutt's team called him and asked him to do so. Later, Oberoi and Dutt starred together in Zilla Ghaziabad.
