Shreyas Talpade Apologizes After Old Clip Of Him Putting His Foot On Symbol 'OM' Goes Viral

For a country like India, it is a wrecking nerve to touch religious subjects and primarily when it is not handled sensitively. In a recent incident, actor Shreyash Talpade is in the same pool of controversy as an old video of the actor putting his foot on 'Om' (a religious invocation in Hinduism) has gone viral.

The viral clip is from a scene from Talpade's film Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal (2012).

Directed by Priyadarshan, the film features Shreyash as a Christian man named Johnny who while trying to stop a vehicle puts 'his foot Om'. A Twitter user displayed his anger over it and wrote, “Christian man puts his foot on Om. Ever saw this type of disrespect for any other religion in Urdowood?”

Shreyas re-shared the clip and expressed in a long note that it was unintentional.

He wrote, “Apologies, there are too many factors while one is shooting….which includes one's mindset during a sequence especially action scenes, the director's requirements, the time constraints and a lot of other things. But this is not me explaining or justifying myself for what you see in the video, all I can say is this was completely unintentional and I am very apologetic for the same.”

He further added, “I should've seen that and brought it to the director's notice. Nevertheless, I would never intentionally hurt anyone's sentiments or repeat something like this.” Several other users took to the comment section and expressed their strong and mixed thoughts over the same.

Shreyas recently shared that during his career's initial days, he reluctantly picked some projects just because 'why to take panga' with anyone?

He shared with PTI, “Because you feel this is working, and if you're not a part of it, you'll be left behind. That way a lot of these multi-starrer comedies happened, some worked, and some didn't. There were films offered by some seniors, known banners. You can't say no as you're new in the industry and you feel why to take any 'panga' (trouble) because they'll feel bad if you turn down their projects. So as an actor, I went with the flow.”

On the career front, Shreyas has been a part of some successful films in the last two decades. He who is all set to feature in Kangana Ranaut's Emergency has films like Om Shanti Om, Housefull 2 and Simmba in his credit.
