Game Changer vs Devara: Ram Charan, Jr NTR follow similar strategies to elevate their stardom after RRR

Game Changer vs Devara: Ram Charan and ‘Young Tiger’ Jr NTR emerged as pan-India names with? SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which hit the screens in 2022 and went on to become a blockbuster. The film’s success left fans eager to know whether the mass heroes would be able to keep the momentum going with their upcoming releases.?

Jr NTR succeeded on this front as Devara emerged as a commercial success despite receiving mixed reviews. Now, it is Ram Charan’s turn to prove his mettle with Game Changer. The political action thriller has created a great deal of buzz among fans as it marks the actor’s first collaboration with Shankar, the ace filmmaker behind blockbusters such as Indian and 2.0

Interestingly, a closer look at Devara and Game Changer reveals that Jr NTR and Ram Charan have adopted very similar strategies to keep their stardom intact after RRR.?

Working with established directors

Prabhas, who emerged as a pan-India sensation with Baahubali 2, teamed up with Sujeeth– a fairly inexperienced filmmaker– for Saaho right after working with ‘Jakkanna’. Tarak and Charan, by contrast, opted to work with established filmmakers after RRR. Jr NTR teamed up with Koratala Siva for Devara. The ‘socially responsible filmmaker’ had previously delivered blockbusters such as Mirchi and Janatha Garage.?

Similarly, Charan’s Game Changer is helmed by Shankar. The Anniyan helmer is regarded as one of India’s finest storytellers. Moreover, he has worked with bigwigs such as Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth.?

Essaying double roles

Jr NTR played a double role in Devara, appearing as the titular character as well as his son Vara. Tarak's performance was appreciated with critics lauding him for doing justice to both characters.

?Like Jr NTR, Ram Charan too plays a double role in his first major release after RRR. The ‘Mega Power Star’ will be seen as Ram Nandan, an IAS officer,? and his father Appanna in the biggie. It remains to be seen if he is able to pull off both characters with effortless ease.?

Wooing the mass audience

Prabhas’ Saaho was essentially a Hollywood-esque thriller that primarily catered to an urban audience. Game Changer, by contrast, is a pakka commercial entertainer made for the masses. In trademark Shankar style, it features punch dialogues and centres on an ordinary man’s fight against the system. Moreover, its visually appealing songs are designed to cater to audiences in mass centres.?

Similarly, Devara too didn’t have an urban setting. The tale unfolded against the backdrop of the sea and had a distinct ‘desi’ flavour, which was highlighted through the Ayudha Pooja song and the mother sentiment.?

Coming back to Game Changer, it is an action drama that revolves around a principled IAS officer with anger issues. The film features Ram Charan in a double role and marks his first collaboration with Shankar. The cast includes Kiara Advani, Anjali, Sunil, Srikanth, SJ Suryah, and Jayaram. S Thaman has composed the film’s music?

Game Changer is set to open in theatres on January 10.?
