Bernard Hill, best known for his famous performance as Captain Edward J Smith in Titanic, has died at the age of 79. The late actor enjoyed a successful career in films, television, and also in the world of theatre. Barbara Dickson, a Scottish folk performer, broke the news of Bernard's death on Twitter.
She wrote on her X account (formerly known as Twitter), ¡°It¡¯s with great sadness that I note the death of Bernard Hill. We worked together in John Paul George Ringo and Bert, Willy Russell marvellous show 1974-1975. A really marvellous actor. It was a privilege to have crossed paths with him. RIP Benny x #bernardhill.¡±
Fans expressed regret after learning of the renowned actor Bernard Hill's passing. Movie buffs remembered his performances in Titanic and The Lord of the Rings.
One wrote, ¡°Ah that¡¯s sad news¡ we were talking about boys from the black stuff the other day¡ that part where he¡¯s had enough and walks into the pond to drown¡ amazing actor.¡±
Another added, ¡°Sad news. RIP Bernard Hill, who left us with some great performances, not least the legendary Yosser Hughes in Boys From The Blackstuff. In contrast, his mellifluous tones narrated many a documentary, too. There goes another cultural colossus.¡±

A third added, ¡°Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear this. He obviously had a great range beyond the character, but his portrayal of Yosser Hughes was one of the most iconic symbols of 80's Britain.¡±
A fourth went on to add, ¡°What an incredibly talented actor. Yosser Hughes was superb.. everyone was going round saying "giz a job, go on giz it. I can do that"?
Captain of the Titanic performance was outstanding. One of the best! RIP Bernard.¡±
