The fan wars on social media are common, but BLACKPINK fans seem to have taken it to another level by dragging Alia Bhatt down with racist and xenophobic remarks after the internet spotted similarities between Jennie's upcoming song Like Jennie and Rani's Intro Theme from the film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Fans of BLACKPINK, known as BLINKS, couldn't handle the criticism and slammed the Indian actor, calling her names and alleging that Jennie could not have taken inspiration from an Indian song since she is a global superstar while Alia is "only" popular in India.
It all began after X users noticed the similarities between Like Jennie and Rani's Intro Theme. Several Indian X users pointed out the resemblance of instrumental beats, hook, and melody of both the tracks.
The Indian song, composed by Pritam, is featured in the 2023 film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. The song plays during Alia's character Rani's introduction.
In contrast, Like Jennie is the fourth single from Jennie's debut album Ruby, set to release on March 7. So far, only a teaser of the song has been unveiled, with the full track dropping alongside the album.
After social media users pointed out the striking similarities between the song from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and Jennie's upcoming track, suggesting that the K-pop artist may have drawn inspiration from the Indian song, Jennie's fans took to social media to hurl racist remarks at Alia Bhatt.
One X user wrote, "No one knows this, Khia, except for the fact that your country is the dirtiest in the world, lmao."
Another wrote, "Bfr Alia is only famous in India; Jennie is a global superstar."
Sharing the X post where a user pointed out similarities between the Bollywood song and Jennie's upcoming track, one fan of BLACKPINK wrote, "I saw a stat that said "65% of Indians are not on the internet yet, and it scared the tf out of me. Imagine how we'd be battling for our lives if more accounts like these existed."
"They probably just did it to call it the 'ALIA' impact. The op is 'huge' on ALIA. Like, do they want Jennie to copy their favorite just to prove that she's relevant even globally? I mean, girl??" another user wrote.
Social media users quickly came to Alia's defense, calling out BLINKS for their hateful comments. Several users clapped back at the hate tweets, pointing out that Alia is a global superstar in her own right, with impressive credentials like starring in an Oscar-nominated film and making not one, but two show-stopping appearances at the Met Gala.
"Kid Alia has double the acting experience Jennie has in music, a hit one at that. That song is a Pritam (artist) song; Alia was the actress in the film. Rani was her character name. You are hating the wrong person here. Get a grip," one user wrote.
"Mind you Alia gained more traction than ur fav in the same Met Gala, is more popular. Copying her song and then being racist, how low is the new low for Seoul cycle fans?" another wrote.
