There's a saying that nothing is truly original in Bollywood ¡ª but now, it seems even K-pop idols are facing similar accusations. Once again, BLACKPINK's Jennie has found herself at the center of a social media debate and plagiarism scandal.
This time, netizens are drawing comparisons between her track Like Jennie and the Rani intro theme from the Bollywood movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (RARKPK).?
The controversy sparked when fans noticed striking similarities in the instrumental beats, hook, and melody of both tracks. Many on social media highlighted that the hook of Like Jennie closely resembles the catchy theme composed by Pritam for Alia Bhatt's character introduction in Karan Johar's 2023 film. ?
The internet was soon buzzing with speculation about whether the global K-pop star drew inspiration from the Bollywood hit. Many took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to weigh in on the plagiarism claims:
One fan wrote, "Plagiarizing a Bollywood song is crazy work."
Another said, "Pritam getting copied was not on my 2025 bingo card."
"She saw Pritam in every desi's top 5 Spotify Wrapped and decided to steal his nachos," joked one user.
Another added, "From being labeled a copycat to being copied by international artists... what a remarkable turnaround for Pritam, the undisputed king of Bollywood music."
Currently, neither Jennie nor her team has responded to the allegations, and the makers of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani have also remained silent.
Jennie's debut solo album Ruby is slated for release on March 7 under her self-founded label, Odd Atelier, in collaboration with Columbia Records. The 15-track album boasts collaborations with artists like Childish Gambino, Dua Lipa, Doechii, Dominic Fike, FKJ, and Kali Uchis. The album will also feature Mantra, a single Jennie released in October.
