Nirmal Kapoor dies at 90 after prolonged illness; Anil, Boney and Sanjay Kapoor mourn loss of their family’s guiding force

The Kapoor family lost its matriarch, Nirmal Kapoor, on May 2. Known as the mother of Bollywood names like Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, and Boney Kapoor, Nirmal passed away due to age-related complications. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday in September 2024.

She had been unwell for months

Nirmal Kapoor had reportedly been in and out of the hospital over the past few months. On May 2, she passed away at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Her health had been deteriorating for some time, and the family had been closely attending to her needs.

A celebrated 90th birthday just months before

In September 2024, the Kapoor family celebrated Nirmal Kapoor’s 90th birthday. On that occasion, her son Boney Kapoor posted an emotional message: “Mummy ji happy 90th birthday, just 1 more decade for a century. We need you to be there for us, bless us, protect us & above all keep guiding us.”

The family she leaves behind

Nirmal Kapoor was the wife of the late Surinder Kapoor, a well-known film producer. Together, they raised four children, including sons Anil, Boney, Sanjay, and a daughter. She was also grandmother to several Bollywood celebrities like Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Harsh Vardhan Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, and Mohit Marwah.

A personal loss for the industry

Her passing is a major loss for the Kapoor family and the film industry. Nirmal Kapoor’s legacy continues through the many successful actors and producers in her family, many of whom have made significant contributions to Indian cinema.
