After a nail-biting first season of Aarya that received global validation with its Emmy nomination, Ram Madhvani created a new battlefield for Aarya to shine through!
Sushmita Sen as Arya displays a range of emotions. From embracing her weaknesses to being unapologetically scared of her fears, Aarya navigates her moral dilemmas by displaying courage.?
Apart from an actor like Sushmita headlining the series, the casting team deserves credit for getting together a seasoned support cast to exhilarate the drama.?Bloodshed, tears, running-chasing sequences, and high voltage family drama with dialogues like "I am a bad daughter," "No, I am a bad mother." exchanged between Aarya and her daughter Arundhati.?
Geetanjali delighted us with a heartwarming performance in Gullak. With Aarya 2, she appears as a supporting character and plays an essential role in Aarya's story and final victory. Despite playing a twisted character with different shades, she is so honest that it gets difficult not to like her as Sushila.
As a 90s kid, you would remember watching Sugandha in ¡®Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa. Little did we know that Sugandha would surprise her with a power-packed and effortlessly splendid performance in Aarya. In the second season, we see her struggles and difficulties accepting the truth of people close to her, and we see Sugandha shine in all her elements.?
She doesn¡¯t miss a beat, and the proof of this fact is in the scene where she has a meltdown in front of the whole family during Sangram¡¯s funeral. We would like to see more of Sugandha in roles that bring out the best in her.?
How many times have you seen someone play a homosexual police officer in a manner as convincing as this? Not even for once does Vikas in his character make you feel uncomfortable. He effortlessly slips into his character and makes you empathize with his character and his battles. His scenes with his boyfriend are so natural and beautifully written that your heart goes for them.?
He is heavily invested in Aarya¡¯s case and tries to reveal the truth. His scenes with Aarya are what a masterclass in acting indeed looks like.
Daulat is the biggest villain in Aarya's life in the first season. However, Sikandar Kher makes his character so likable that you feel for him and his compulsions of being a faithful servant to his 'Maalik.¡¯ You see colors of honesty, passion, empathy, and a lot of compassion in Daulat, even though you have several reasons to hate him. It won't be an exaggeration to say that Sikander Kher fits in perfectly into this role.?
In a conversation with Telegraph India, Sikandar Kher spoke about his character and said, "Playing Daulat has made me think a little extra than what I have done for the characters I have played so far. My mind is constantly ticking when I play him... it¡¯s not just about standing there quietly... there¡¯s a lot more about it. I have to work on making Daulat¡¯s silence interesting. It¡¯s always tough to play him. But it¡¯s a good kind of tough. It keeps me on my toes and keeps me excited."
Bollywood's eternal 'Bad Boy' Vishwajeet is an actor who knows his craft perfectly. He is one person who gets his assignment (If you know what I mean). After playing negative roles for most of his life, he steps into the shoes of Sampat, who is a loyal worker who can go to any extent to save his boss and his family. But in season 2, you see different shades of Sampat, like when he rushes Aru (Arya's daughter) to the hospital.?
His change of heart towards the end could not have been predicted, and Vishwajeet does an incredible job of ensuring that. In a recent interview with social news.xyz, he says,?
¡°Earlier, the character was black or white, good or pure evil, but nowadays character operates more in gray areas, my character Sampat, he is a villain, he hates Aarya, but he has some sort of consciousness and feelings as well, especially towards her daughter, he feels guilty and shows some sort of remorse, so, it is a layered character."
Sohaila Kapur, who plays Aarya's mother, delivers a top-notch performance despite limited screen time. As a world-weary older woman who has seen it all, she manages to make her character powerful and intriguing. With every scene, you're left wanting more to see how the actions of others are impacting Rajeshwari¡¯s life.
Despite a character that is heavily loaded with visible cliches as far as her look is concerned, Virti Vaghani's efforts don't go unnoticed. After losing her father to her grandfather's violent and ruthless scheme, you see Aru as a dysfunctional teenager with suicidal tendencies. For the first few episodes, you see her spiraling into a black hole and finally developing feelings of hatred for her mother, who she mostly keeps misunderstanding. Virti's efforts to portray vulnerability with ease deserve mention.
As a faithful friend to Aarya, Maya shines in all her elements. Maya has her weak moments in the show, but her gutsy performance ensures that you stay invested in her performance and what she has got to bring to the table. Even though you might feel like the proceedings become predictable in a couple of episodes, characters like Maya and Hina give you enough reasons to stay loyalists to watch till the end.
Dilnaz Irani is the new entrant in the twisted and dark world of Aarya. She plays Shefali Gupta, the ultra-ambitious public prosecutor who can twist the law unapologetically to get things done the way she wants them to. She appears in very few scenes but manages to leave a mark. In one of the episodes, Dilnaz tries to coax and manipulate Aarya into getting a confession, and that's where you realize how an actor can leave an impression on the audience without caring very little about their screen time.?
We wish we see more of Dilnaz, and it would be fascinating to see her teaming up with Sooraj (Nandini's husband) in the third season to avenge his wife's death.
Ankur Bhatia plays the role of Sushmita Sen's brother, Sangram Singh, in Aarya. Since season 1 of Aarya, Sangram has been a self-centered, manipulative person who can go to any extent to get what he wants. He is never bothered about the damage that his actions could cause in his way, and that is what makes his character challenging. Ankur plays Sangram with so much conviction that not for a second you¡¯re in disbelief. In an interview with Latestly, he opened up about his character in Season 2, and he said,?"I have always thought of Sangram Singh as a hero. He might look like a villain, but he has done all the right things. Like he robbed drugs worth Rs 300 crore and equally distributed among his other two partners. And in Aarya 2 also, he¡¯s going to be a hero as well. We will get to see his wild, aggressive, and vulnerable side. Trust me, and the show gets thrilling in the latest season."
Jayant Kriplane again wins hearts with his effortless performance as Aarya¡¯s father despite having less screen time in the second season. Zorawar extends every possible help to Aarya and makes sure there are no obstacles in her life. Jayant Kriplani, who has repeatedly given incredible performances, gives you many reasons to believe he was tailor-made for Zorawar. Despite him being on the death bed, he manages to convince you thoroughly that he is still the hailing lion clinging to power. He is one of the biggest villains in Aarya¡¯s life, but we see a change in his heart when he realizes he loves his daughter more than anything else.
Kedia is the backbone of Aarya and her entire family. He plays the trustworthy, dependable 'dial a friend', even though he is just an accountant. Thanks to performers like Tariq and Sugandha that the script that could have felt tiring became nail-biting and exciting.?
Tariq plays his character with the kind of authenticity and honesty it needs. How will Kedia be a part of Aarya's story in season 3? Well, it could be interesting to see, considering his boss Zorawar also breathes his last in the last episode of season 2.
