Setting a benchmark in waste management and environment conservation, the Bollywood film ¡®Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui¡¯ team has more than one reason to be proud.
From assigning a special crew to manage the waste produced on the set to placing colour-coordinated bins to segregate the waste, the team had followed some simple yet effective steps to handle the waste.
Here¡¯s how the crew of ¡®Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui¡¯ made itself India¡¯s first zero-waste film:
The makers avoided using 1000 plastic bottles every day by replacing them with water dispensers. All crew members were also provided with reusable water bottles.
The team also distributed the excess food on the sets among the needy. The Skrap team, in association with the Robinhood Army and Feeding Indian, conducted food distribution drives, feeding thousands of low-income families.
All the members involved in the film ensured that there was no rubbish during the shooting.?Director Abhishek Kapoor said, ¡°We have hired a few people exclusively for waste management, and in this way, we have done minimal damage to the earth by the end of the shooting.¡±
Actor Vani Kapoor said, ¡°We used shampoo, big bottles of conditioner, bamboo toothbrushes instead of small packs during the shoot; with this, we have been able to reduce a large amount of plastic waste.¡±
Colour-coded dustbins were placed around the location to help people divide the trash into solid, liquid and PPE categories. The waste collected was further sorted to be upcycled and reused.
The film directed by Abhishek Kapoor stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor in the lead. Co-produced by Pragya Kapoor and Bhushan Kumar of T-Series, the film will hit the theatres on 10th December.
