Amar Singh Chamkila's biopic is all set to be released on Netflix on April 11. The singer (played by Diljit Dosanjh) who died like Sidhu Moose Wala at the age of 27 was married to Amarjot Kaur (whose role Parineeti Chopra is playing in the Imtiaz Ali movie), who was also her singing partner. Both of them were killed by unknown assailants.?
Amarjot Kaur was the female vocalist in Amar Singh Chamkila¡¯s band. She joined the band on Kuldeep Manak's suggestion. Manak who had worked with her on an album suggested the name to Chamkila who was looking for a female singer for his band. And rest, as they say, was history. Together, they became a hit pair. So much so, that audiences loved them both together. Their popularity grew not only in Punjab but overseas. At that time, they did about 366 shows in 365 days.
As Amarjot Kaur and Amar Singh Chamkila started working together, their chemistry flourished on stage and off-stage. They fell in love and got married. This was their second marriage. Amarjot had separated from her husband to pursue a career in singing. Amar Singh Chamkila on the other hand was previously married to Gurmail and had two daughters named Amaldeep and Kamaldeep. Amarjot and Chamkila later welcomed? son Jaiman Chamkila in their lives.
Amarjot and Chamkila were killed by motorcycle-borne assailants with AK47s on March 8, 1988. They were getting out of the car ahead of their performance. Until today, no one know who killed Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur.?
