Veteran Tamil star Ganesan popularly known as Delhi Ganesh left for his heavenly abode on the night of November 9th. ANI reports that the 80-year-old¡¯s last rites will be held on November 10 and the cause of his death is age-related health complications. His mortal remains are kept in Chennai¡¯s Ramapuram. Ganesh's family in an official statement said, "We deeply regret to inform you that our father Mr Delhi Ganesh has passed away on 9th November at around 11 PM.¡±
Born on August 1, 1944, Ganesh started his career by serving in the Indian Air Force from 1964 to 1974. He then left the services to pursue his passion for acting and made his big screen debut in 1976 with K. Balachander's film Pattina Pravesam. In a career spanning close to five decades, Delhi Ganesh appeared in over 400 films including Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.
Last appeared in Kamal Haasan¡¯s 2024 hit Indian 2, Delhi Ganesh is known for his many iconic performances like those in Nayakan (1987), Michael Madhana Kama Rajan (1990), Apoorva Sagodharargal (1989), Aahaa..! (1997), Thenali (2000), and Engamma Maharani (1981), Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru (2016).?In 1979, Ganesh won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for his performance in?Pasi?and was awarded with Kalaimamani Award in 1994 for his excellence in the arts.
Playing characters like villains, friends, and fathers, the actor has worked with almost all the biggest stalwarts of the south like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Vijayakanth. For those who don't know,?Ganesan?was given his stage name Delhi Ganesh by K. Balachander.
Also a member of the Delhi-based theatre troupe Dakshina Bharata Nataka Sabha, Ganesh in his later career stage ventured into doing TV shows and short films. One of his most memorable cameos still remains Alfred Pennyworth in the short film What If Batman Was from Chennai.
