It¡¯s official ¡ª Garlic Naan is now the world¡¯s best bread. In Taste Atlas¡¯s March 2025 global rankings, this beloved Indian classic clinched the number one spot with a score of 4.7.
?If you¡¯ve ever torn into a hot, buttery garlic naan fresh from the tandoor, you probably understand why.
But that¡¯s not where the story ends. Alongside garlic naan, Amritsari Kulcha and Parotta also made it into the top 10, solidifying what we¡¯ve known all along: Indian breads are having a serious global moment.?
Taste Atlas, a well-known global food guide, ranks authentic dishes based on user ratings and expert input. The March 2025 list saw India outperform several global bread staples, including Turkey¡¯s karamba pidesi, Malaysia¡¯s roti canai, and Colombia¡¯s pan de bono.
These rankings aren¡¯t just a pat on the back but a celebration of tradition. Every bite of naan or kulcha comes with a little bit of history, a little bit of home, and now, global love. Whether it¡¯s served on a roadside dhaba table or a white tablecloth in New York, Indian bread is finally being appreciated for the magic it is.?
For years, Indian breads were seen as the backup dancers to bold curries. Not anymore. Garlic naan¡¯s soft, chewy texture, smoky edges, and generous garlic-butter glaze have turned it into a dish that people crave on its own. It¡¯s versatile, comforting, and undeniably addictive.
Right behind it, Amritsari Kulcha claimed second place. Stuffed with spiced potatoes or paneer and cooked until crisp, it¡¯s a North Indian favorite with real attitude. Parotta, with its flaky, layered texture and golden edges, grabbed the sixth spot¡ªproof that South India¡¯s street food charm travels far.
Also making the list: classic Naan at eighth, Paratha at 18th, Bhatura, Aloo Naan, and even Roti, which slipped in at 35. Each one brings a different vibe, from deep-fried indulgence to everyday comfort.??
