Kindness costs nothing. Most of us have heard these words n number of times, but have you ever taken a moment to ponder upon it? In a world, where every individual is chasing his/her dreams, are we slowly losing the basics? It¡¯s definitely something to think about.?
Come to think of it, every time you come across a piece of news that reinstates your faith in humanity, it does give you a little bit of hope that all the good hasn¡¯t been lost in this world, doesn¡¯t it?
Like recently, a woman won hearts when she designed a visiting card for her house help.?Similarly, women police officers in Assam volunteered to look after the babies of women who had to undertake Teacher's Eligibility Test.
In the middle of our monotonous routines, it¡¯s easy for even the most compassionate people to forget that little gestures have a potential to brighten up lives. A simple ¡®Thank You¡¯ or ¡®I¡¯m sorry¡¯ can easily make someone¡¯s day.??

On the occasion of World Kindness Day, here are 40 simple and effortless gestures that you can do to make the world a better place for at least some people. As they say, one good deed can sometimes go a long way. Without further ado, scroll!
1. Instead of carrying out your daily prep to go to your office, how about you start with getting up 30 minutes early to spend time with your family? Having a sweet conversation with a loved one early in the morning can set the mood for the entire day! Sit down with your parents, spouse and loved ones and enjoy a new day with a cup of tea.?

2. Be considerate of people on the road. While driving can be very cumbersome, pedestrians are equally hassled. Instead of exchanging death glares and honking, let them cross the road.?
3. If you commute via public transport, try to smile at strangers. In fact, sometimes it¡¯s good to put your extrovert skills to good use and spark conversations with random people.?
4. Try to compliment someone. It could be on the smallest of things. It can uplift the mood of that person tenfold. And anyway, who doesn¡¯t like to get appreciated, right?
5. We sometimes tend to take things for granted. Appreciate a co-worker or even you boss for teaching/guiding you on something. A quick email or a Whatsapp message to a mentor or an office friend can make a huge impact.

6. In case you are travelling in metro/train, try to offer your seat to someone in need. You have no idea how much happiness it¡¯ll give the other person. In turn, that smile will give you instant gratification.
7. While everyone is in a mad rush to reach their workplace on time, try to give way to another car in your lane. I¡¯m sure you would be thinking that¡¯s the most absurd thing to do but in a way you will be testing your own road rage as well.?
8. Leave a note on a friend¡¯s desk. It could be a silly one but handwritten notes are the best way to uplift someone¡¯s mood.?
9. Try to strike conversations with the junior staff. For instance, the pantry guy who makes your coffee or the security guard who helps you in parking your car. Everyone likes to be given importance and respect.
10. At the risk of sounding controversial, it¡¯s good to introduce people. Playing cupid or even recommending a person for a job could do wonders!
11. If you have been holding onto a grudge with someone, resolve it. Let bygones be bygones. Just tell them to reboot. Not just the other person, it¡¯ll help your mental health and promote self-love. Life is too short to live with damaged relationships.
12. Apologise. Sometimes, even when you don¡¯t think it¡¯s your mistake. You are not only healing the other person but even your own self.?
13. Take a stand. Speak up for everything that you believe in, even if it¡¯s trivial.
14. Share music recommendations. Music binds people like no other. If you are tripping over a song, a web-show or a movie share it with people. I for one, have always been grateful for such recommendations because I got to learn about things that weren¡¯t even of my interest in the first place.
15. Healthy gossiping is a part of everyone¡¯s life but don¡¯t cross the line to an extent that it ends up hurting people. Honor the trust of the person who is confiding in you. Always stand up for the underdog.
16. Cook for someone. It could be as little as making tea, coffee or a sandwich.?
