Massive fire broke at New Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area. The fire broke out at Eye-7 hospital at 12pm today. Passerbys noticed a huge plume of smoke near the eye hospital in South Delhi. 12 fire brigades pulled in to diffuse the situation. Fortunately, no one has reportedly been injured.
These incidents do make you think. What if you are stuck and trapped inside a building that's burning. How will you save yourself. Well, here are some tips to ensure you can exit a building on fire safely and quickly.
When you lay low, you avoid that cloud of smoke that usually forms around the ceiling first. It can get equally dangerous if the black big smoke gets to you.?
If you see a room catching fire, try and shut the doors to prevent it from spreading. If there is only smoke reaching you from another room, best is too cover the seal the gaps with towels, clothes to avoid suffocation.
Before touching any doors, always check if its hot. You can burn your hands if it's steel door handles especially. Use a cloth to open and close entry and exit doors.
Please ensure you get help immediately. Call for fire ambulance and if there is a glass window, try and open that and signal people around you for help.
The key is to stay calm and composed. If someone around you is panicking or is burnt, please tell them to maintain composure and help them with first aid while look for ways to escape.
If the smoke has reached your room, try and use a wet cloth to cover your face from burning and suffocation.
