Remember the scene from Chak De where the Indian Hockey players are struggling to drape their sarees before the official dinner. Well, seeing the lack of comfort and ease with their own set of players too, Commonwealth Games in 2018 had switched to blazers and trousers for women.
However, after a gap of 8 years, the drape is back as an official attire at the Olympics but with a positive upgrade. Now the female athletes will have a pre-pleated saree, which will make the draping completely hassle-free.
Paris Olympics which is scheduled to be held from July 26 to August, will no longer see the blue blazer and attire. The traditional Indian attire will be the official ceremonial uniform for the country's female athletes.?
The saree will have a Ikat print with an impression of the tri-colour.?It will be paired with a matching blouse pocket (which will reportedly have IOA insignia)
Firstly, it's completely a handmade fabric. The print is a technique to colouring fabric in patterns by resist dyeing. A tie and die process giving a feathery touch by weaving. Labour intensive and intricate craftsmanship makes this an expensive fabric.
