Have you ever wondered what your cat actually feels towards you or their fellow pets? As a cat owner, you'll probably agree that owning a cat is not an easy task! While other pets such as dogs are much more expressive with their attention, cats are mysterious creatures. Sometimes you'll find them curled up next to you purring and other times they won't even let you pet them. This mercurial behaviour has given rise to many myths about the nature of cats, with many people believing that cats are cold and heartless. Take a look at this cat who loves to cuddle with their parent.
Even though cats appear to be aloof in their conduct unlike dogs who have a 'pack mentality' and more often than not, they are very popular pets. Because of their popularity as pets and their sometimes standoffish demeanour, many research studies are being conducted to ease their caretakers' minds about their true nature. If you are one of those cat parents or just someone on the internet looking to become one, keep reading we're here to stop your mind's worry cycle. Take a look at this cat and their parrot sibling.
If you are one of those 'cat-haters' that believe cats are unfeeling or do not care for anyone, we would like to say, hard luck! Because science disagrees with your notion! According to a new research study published in Applied Animal Behaviour Science, cats mourn when another household pet dies.
As per the study, since cats are more subtle in nature their grief depends upon how closely involved they were with their pet siblings. If a cat used to regularly spend time with the now deceased or they were involved in their daily routine like playing, eating or sleeping together, after their passing tend to stop eating or playing as they feel their void. Cats who were earlier feisty or somewhat disruptive later become subdued after the death of their furry friend!
So if you were in a dilemma to bring home a cat, be assured that they are not the heartless creatures they are purported to be!
