Interviews can be nerve-wracking, so being well-prepared is key. If you are getting ready for a job change and have an interview coming up, some advice from a former Google recruiter who shares the "major red flags" in a job interview could be beneficial to follow.?
Nolan Church, a former recruiter at Google, offers advice to job seekers on phrases to avoid in job interviews, reports CNBC Make It.?
Here are the phrases he emphasised:?
Saying phrases like "I work too hard" or "I'm a perfectionist" may imply that you believe you are already perfect at your job and have no room for growth, which could give the impression that you are not being genuine or that you believe you can't improve further as an employee in the new job.?
Instead, Church suggests sharing an example of a mistake you have made in your previous job, discussing what you learned from it, and explaining how you have developed and grown as a result.?
Sometimes, your work might be affected by someone else's mistake, but it's generally not advisable to speak negatively about your past colleagues or coworkers.?
Blaming others, whether it is a former colleague, manager, or company, can reflect poorly on you.?
Instead, taking responsibility shows humility, acknowledging that you are not perfect, and are willing to learn from your mistakes.?
Nolan suggests that admitting you don't know the answer to a question can put an end to the conversation.?
Even if you lack experience, it's better to respond with, "I don't know the solution, but here's how I'd figure it out.'"?
Nolan recommends making a positive impression by expressing your excitement for the role, inquiring about the problems you can help solve, and maintaining eye contact with the interview to demonstrate confidence and capability.??
