In a world buzzing with curiosity about Artificial Intelligence (AI), there's various questions dominating conversations: How will AI shape our future, and are we equipped to thrive in it? Almost all bosses ¡ª 96% ¡ª are feeling the pressure to bring AI into their business routines, as per a CNBC report.
However, as per a recent survey by Slack Workforce Lab in March 2024, over two-thirds of office workers admit they have never worked with AI.?
Lydia Logan, IBM's VP of global education and workforce development, warns that those who skip learning AI could miss out on career advancements.?
According to Logan, the 'in-demand' AI skill everyone's after is prompt engineering, a field she urges everyone to explore, even without a bachelor's degree.
If you have used ChatGPT, one of the most popular AI tools today, you have likely noticed that the more precise your prompts, the better the responses.
This is why BOLD prompt engineering is in such high demand - it involves creating effective prompts for natural language processing (NLP) models like GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer).
Simply put, a prompt engineer crafts the right questions or instructions for an AI chatbot like ChatGPT or a large language model (LLM) to get valuable information for an employer or clients. And you might not even need a bachelor's degree for this role.
Logan explains that new job types like prompt engineers and AI product managers prioritise technical and soft skills over traditional degrees.?
"I cannot stress this enough: Prompt engineering is a gateway skill that you can use almost anywhere," says Logan. "It's a skill that can open the door to so many opportunities."
Listings on LinkedIn and job-search site Indeed show that companies are willing to pay between $100,000 (over Rs 93 lakhs, approximately) to over $200,000 (approximately Rs 166 lakhs) annually for a "prompt engineer."?
In India, a prompt engineer with 2-5 years of experience can earn between Rs 6 lakhs to Rs 12 lakhs per year.?
