Each year, a select few achieve the prestigious rank of IAS officers, with toppers grabbing headlines and their stories celebrated across newspapers and TV channels. For a brief moment, their achievements are the talk of the town, but soon enough, the buzz fades and people move on. Yet, there are those rare individuals who remain in public memory such that a mere mention of their name sparks recognition. One such name is Tina Dabi¡ªand chances are, you've heard of her.
Tina Dabi topped the UPSC CSE in 2015, joining the ranks of many other toppers over the years. But what is it about her that sets her apart from the rest?
Tina Dabi became a household name because of her outstanding success in the UPSC CSE, an exam that Indian society holds in high regard. At just 22, and fresh out of college¡ªan age when many are still figuring out their future¡ªshe achieved the top rank on her first attempt in 2015.?
This accomplishment made her an overnight sensation and a source of inspiration for many.
After completing her BA (Hons) in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, Tina Dabi embarked on her UPSC preparation earlier than most.?
Target setting
While her peers were soaking up the college experience, Dabi was already dedicating seven hours a day to her studies.?
She made it a point to stay informed about current affairs by reading newspapers daily, a routine that kept her ahead in the competitive exam landscape.
One crucial tip she emphasises is the importance of setting clear goals.?
"The syllabus for this examination is huge and one cannot approach it if there is no clear goal defined," she tells The Better India.
Time is of utmost importance
"You need to acknowledge that one cannot study for hours together without a break or for that matter even the same subject," says Tina Dabi.?
Tina shares that she herself used a schedule with three-hour and two-hour blocks, focusing on one subject at a time.
Practise, practise and practise
Dabi spent ample time revising and solving previous years' question papers.?
She recommends setting aside one day each week for reviewing that week's material.?
As she tells TBI, "After completing a particular portion of the syllabus, ensure that you come back and revise it within 10 days. If not, chances of forgetting it are high."
Given her meticulous preparation, it's no surprise that Dabi achieved such remarkable success.
Dabi's success story is also a testament to her family's support. Her mother made the significant sacrifice of retiring from her job to allow Tina to concentrate fully on her studies.?
This support, combined with Tina's relentless dedication, paid off when she secured the top rank in the UPSC CSE in 2016.
Since then, her career has been marked by impressive milestones¡ªfrom serving as an IAS officer in the Rajasthan cadre to her current role as District Collector of Barmer.?
