What will the short-term courses in HEIs be?
UGC Chairman Prof Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar revealed that the HEIs may consider offering short-term skill development courses from the following broad areas:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Machine learning
- Robotics IoT (Internet of Things)
- Industrial IoT
- Smart Cities
- Data Science and Analytics
- Cloud Computing
- Virtual Reality
- Augmented Reality
- Extended Reality
- Cyber Security
- Digital Forensics
- 5G connectivity
- Digital Fluency or Digital transformation
- Industrial Automation and Robotics Process Automation (RPA)
- Electronic System Designs
- Electronic Manufacturing
- Basic Coding in Computing Languages

Who can avail of the short-term courses in HEIs?
Prof Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said that anyone who has passed the 10 plus 2 or is eligible for admission to any undergraduate programme is a suitable candidate for the short-term courses, as reported by IANS.

He said that the higher educational institutions may collaborate with the relevant Sector Skills Councils or Awarding Bodies and industries to gain credibility, access to placement opportunities, funding schemes and training, and ensure up-to-date course content.
What are UGC's guidelines on short-term courses in HEIs?
UGC Chairman Prof Jagadesh Kumar said that the HEI shall offer credit-linked short-term skill development certificate courses of 3-6 months. The HEI shall use a credit mechanism to design the course structure.
A short-term skill development course in any stream shall be at least 12 credits and a maximum of 30 credits, as Kumar said.
