Days after a mother-daughter duo jumped off the moving train in order to save themselves from being molested, a young woman in Chennai died after she was allegedly set on fire at her home by a stalker.
Whenever we talk about how unsafe women are in India, Delhi always faces the brunt of being the most unsafe city for women, but the reality is that molestation, rapes and eve teasing is a reality all across India regardless the regions and states.
Here are ten such incidents where women were either molested and raped or killed and injured for putting up the fight against their molesters.
1. Woman burnt by the stalker
On November 13, 2017, A young woman in Chennai was set on fire allegedly by a man who had been stalking her. The incident took place in Adambakkam area. The woman has been identified as Induja.? While the woman died, her mother and sister sustained burn injuries.

On November 11, a? 40-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter jumped off a running train after a group of men attempted to rape the girl on board Howrah-Jodhpur Express. The duo was travelling from Kolkata to Delhi in an unreserved coach. They jumped off the moving train when a group of men tried to drag the girl in the toilet. Read More
On September 7, 2017, a 22-year-old woman techie from Nagpur was killed in Ambernath in Maharashtra after being allegedly gang-raped by two of her friends. The accused later packed her body in a suitcase and dumped it near Belgaum.? On October 30, a 100-year-old woman was raped by a drunk man in? Uttar Pradesh¡¯s Meerut. The woman later died in hospital.?
In October this year, Kerala police arrested a man from Kozhikkode after a video fo him trying to molest a woman surfaced. In the video, the man was seen overpowering the woman, but she fought back and a scuffle ensued. The scuffle got her some time and she raised alarm.
In June 2017, a woman in Gurgaon was gang-raped in an auto at night and her 6-month-old baby died after the accused threw the baby out of auto on road. The police arrested the accused later. Read More
In March, an 18-year-old girl got seriously injured when she resisted her three molesters who threw acid on her after failing to molest her. The incident took place in Aligarh¡¯s Magorra police station¡¯s jurisdiction.?
In the beginning of the year, Chaitali Wasnik becomes a household name because she instead of backing out and getting molested like many other girls that unfortunate night, decided to give it back. When the molesters tried to grope her, she fought back while the crowd kept watching. She later posted her effort on Facebook how a molester groped her. In June, a second-year BA student was burnt alive by her neighbour in Ganeshpur area of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh for resisting his advances. The family members of the victim say that the accused, Hari Om, had misbehaved with her a few days ago, following which the family had complained to his sister.

In August, a woman was attacked with acid after she resisted the advances and lewd comments of a group of men at Kanpur railway station. The group of men also tried to molest her. She sustained serious burns on the face and was unable to open her eyes, which might have been affected.
While these are just a few cases where women fought against the molesters, hundreds and thousands of cases where women get eve-teased, molested and even raped go unreported.?
