Let's face it. coronavirus is disease that has left a blanket of fear across the world. And when it comes to our very doors, panic and paranoia is bound to set in. The latest is when 15 Italian tourists who have tested positive are in India.
So what are the options to screen such cases? What steps are the government taking? Well it has made it mandatory for passengers from affected countries fill forms with personal details and travel history to the health and immigration officials.?
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has also requested that planes have protective gear like masks and gloves on board which can be easily availed by passengers if there is risk of an outbreak. Now the question is how does one contain the spread??
The Italian tourists were screened at immigration. Now the problem is by the time a person is entering the terminal, he will have been exposed to others and it could be too late for all we know. The ideal step that should be taken is to do the screening on the plane itself and then take them into isolation. If the whole point is to quarantine them, then do it without exposing others to the risk of infection. The whole point is to contain it, minimise the damage and then work on a solution.?
As per media reports the tourists have been quarantined at at a camp of the Indo-Tibetan Police Force.?
In India, as of now 28 cases have been confirmed. A total of 438 people have been suspected, and of them 225 have completed 28 days of surveillance. 189 are being observed while 89 are in isolation.
