The owners of the '1Above' restaurant, where 14 people lost their lives and 31 were injured in a massive fire on December 29 last year, left the victims to fend for themselves and ran away from the place to save their own lives, those survived the tragedy have told the police.
According to a chargesheet filed by Mumbai Police, a fan next to burning coal that was meant for hookahs at Mojo¡¯s Bistro was left switched on which later caused the Kamala Mills fire.

The over 2,700-page charge sheet by NM Joshi Marg Police states that Mojo¡¯s Bistro illegally served hookah to its patrons on the open terrace and had employed separate staff for it also. The hookah manager worked along with four men at the restaurant and they were employed with Nirvana, which supplied hookah services to Mojo¡¯s Bistro.?

According to a witness, the fire from the hookah engulfed the entire area within 30 to 40 seconds due to the monsoon shed erected at '1Above'.
The police team which probed the incident have recorded statements of more than 25 people who were present at the building at the time of the fire.
They have filed charges against 12 accused, including Ali, the owners and managers of '1Above', owners of Mojo¡¯s Bistro and the owners of the Kamala Mills compound.
