The Mumbai Police have arrested a 20-year-old man from Noida for allegedly making threatening calls to actor Salman Khan and Zeeshan Siddique, son of murdered politician Baba Siddique. The youth, identified as Mohammed Tayyab, was arrested on Tuesday, based on a complaint filed by Siddique's office.
"The threatening call came on Friday evening. The person on the phone had threatened to kill Zeeshan Siddique and actor Salman Khan and demanded money," police said.
This is the second such arrest made by the Mumbai Police recently. Earlier, the Mumbai Police had arrested Shaikh Hussain Shaikh Mausin, a 24-year-old vegetable seller from Jamshedpur, for issuing a threatening message to Salman Khan, demanding Rs 5 crore.
The threat was issued on the Mumbai traffic police's WhatsApp helpline, and the suspect was identified from the mobile number used to send the message.
The threats came at a time when the security of both Khan and Siddique has come under scrutiny following the murder of the latter's father, NCP leader Baba Siddique.
The four-term MLA and former Maharashtra minister was shot dead on 12 October by three assailants near the office of his son, Zeeshan Siddique, in the Nirmal Nagar area of Mumbai.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the killing of Siddique, who was known to be close to Khan.
A total of 15 people, including the gunmen and those who hired them, have been arrested so far in connection with Siddique's murder.
Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, is said to have directly coordinated the murder of Siddique. Anmol Bishnoi was also behind a firing incident outside actor Salman Khan's Mumbai residence in April.
Lawrence Bishnoi, who has been in jail since 2015, has targeted Khan several times in the past, allegedly over the actor's involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.
