In a tragic incident, a three-year-old girl was killed after being hit by the New Delhi to Amb Andaura Vande Bharat Express.
The incident happened near Kiratpur Sahib in Punjab¡¯s Ropar district on Tuesday morning.
The three-year-old girl, identified as Khusi, was following her father, who crossed the rail track.
The father, Vikas, a street vendor, was unaware of his daughter following him.
According to The Times of India, the train driver honked thrice, but the child could not understand, following which a part of the speeding train hit the girl leaving her dead on the spot.
Last month three children were run over by a Saharanpur to Una passenger train near the area while they were crossing the railway track.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the inaugural run of the new Vande Bharat Express from Amb Andaura, Una to New Delhi on October 13, 2022.
The first regular service of the train was on October 19 from the New Delhi railway station.
The train takes 4 hours 46 minutes to reach Una and has a maximum speed of 130 km.
In October, the Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express was involved in a string of incidents on the railway tracks.
On October 6, its front panel was damaged when it hit a herd of four buffaloes between Vatva and Maninagar railway stations. The next day (October 7), the train hit a cow near Anand. In another incident, the train hit a bull near Atul railway station in Gujarat.?
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Railways had floated a tender for manufacturing 200 new rakes of new-generation Vande Bharat trains.
According to the official information, the tender is about 26,000 crore rupees and the project has to be completed in 24 to 30 months.
Five prominent companies, BHEL, BML, MEDHA, RVNL and ALSTOM INDIA, have shown interest in this project.
These 200 rakes of Vande Bharat will be designed for sleeper class only. Also, the train can be made with an aluminium body and is 2-3 tons lighter than the previous version of trains.?
These trains would have only sleeper class coaches with a Wi-Fi facility. Every coach will have LED screens providing passenger information and infotainment.
The newly designed Vande Bharat Express trains will have a photo-catalytic ultraviolet air purification system. These trains will also have automatic fire sensors, CCTV cameras and GPS systems to make travelling safer and more comfortable.
