A Malaysian couple, destined to be together, tragically died in a car crash before their wedding. Honoring their wish to remain united forever, their families arranged a 'ghost marriage' for their spirits. This poignant and heartwarming tribute symbolises their eternal love, ensuring their bond remains unbroken even in the afterlife.
Yang Jingshan, 31, was an international referee for the Malaysia Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Association and known for his public service.?His 32-year-old girlfriend, Li, worked at a food processing factory in Malaysia.?
The couple had been together for three years, and Yang had planned to propose to Li in Thailand in June.?
Sadly, on May 24, their car overturned in Perak, northwestern Malaysia, and they both passed away.
To honor their love, the grieving families decided to hold a "ghost marriage" to unite them as husband and wife in the afterlife. They even created wedding photos for the couple.

In Chinese tradition, a "ghost marriage" ensures that individuals who died without fulfilling their wishes, like getting married, can find peace in the afterlife.?
There are two types of ghost marriages: one for couples who died before or after engagement, where their parents organize a wedding and bury them together; and another for individuals who had no marriage contract while alive but are posthumously matched through a matchmaker, similar to a living arranged marriage.
Interestingly, India has similar customs. Last month, a family in Karnataka made headlines for placing a newspaper ad seeking a spirit groom for their daughter who passed away 30 years ago.
Though these customs might seem unusual, they offer profound comfort to grieving families. They provide a way for loved ones to fulfill wishes of the departed, helping not just the deceased but also the living find peace. In honoring these traditions, families find a path to healing and moving forward.
