Virat Kohli, India's star batter, made a special gesture for teammates KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal after stumps on Day 2 of the first Test against Australia in Perth. On Saturday, Jaiswal and Rahul batted for more than two sessions at the Optus Stadium, giving India a 218-run lead over the hosts. The partnership scored an unbroken 172 runs for the opening wicket, putting India in command with three days of cricket remaining in Perth. Jaiswal and Rahul were unbeaten at the end of the day, with scores of 90 and 62, respectively.
As Jaiswal and Rahul were headed into the changing room, Kohli, who was fully padded, entered the ground and saluted the two. His unique gesture went popular on social media.

India's skipper Jasprit Bumrah struck early, dismissing in-form wicketkeeper Carey for 21 off 31 balls, including three fours. Rishabh Pant, the goalkeeper, caught him from behind. It also marked Bumrah's eleventh five-wicket haul in Tests. Australia was 70/8.
