In a surprising move, Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to quit Mumbai and move to Goa. The batsman, who played for the Mumbai state team since his under-19 days, has decided to take this major change in his career and join the Goa team from next season onwards.
According to the ToI report, Jaiswal will join Goa as the captain for the 2025-26 season. In the recent past, Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad are some of the players, among other cricketers from Mumbai, who changed their team to Goa.
The 23-year-old Indian cricketer is said to have written an email to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to change his cricket state team, reported ANI.?
Yashasvi Jaiswal played for Mumbai in the recent Ranji Trophy campaign of 2024-25 after returning from an underwhelming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it mandatory for Team India's stars to participate in domestic red-ball cricket, prompting the likes of Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and others to return to their respective state teams.
Therefore, Jaiswal will be donning the Goa jersey in domestic cricket. Additionally, the report also stated that Jaiswal had a difficult start to the Indian Premier League 2025 campaign for the Rajasthan Royals, as the opening batsman could only secure 34 runs in three matches, and the franchise has struggled to draw favourable results.
Apart from this, Jaiswal has been facing a lot of issues during the powerplay since the IPL 2024 matches, especially in the first three overs.?
As soon as the information surfaced on social media, fans couldn't keep calm and asked, Why did he make such a decision?' While some appreciated the move.
One user on X (formerly called Twitter) said, "Will he be made captain there?"
Another said, "Could he be a future captain of the Indian Test team?"
"If Rohit Sharma has taken the place, then this will happen," another user mentioned.
While some praised the decision, "That is an interesting decision!"
"Good decision. He will get more importance."
