Just days after Cyclone Kyarr which turned out to be a rare super cyclone in the Arabian Sea battered the Southwestern coast of India the region is bracing for another storm.
India Meteorological Department Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said the deep depression in the Arabian Sea intensified into cyclonic storm ''Maha'' on Wednesday evening.

According to the IMD, Cyclone Maha will batter Lakshadweep later today accompanied by 100-200 mm rains in parts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts of Kerala.
The depression that had developed in the Comorin Sea intensified into a cyclonic storm and will move along India's western coast without making landfall.?
Cyclon Maha is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rains along Kerala, Karnataka, southern districts of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry during the next two days.?

Sea conditions will be very rough over the Lakshadweep area from 31 October to 2 November and IMD has advised fishermen not to venture out to the southeast and the east-central Arabian Sea during the period.
"Extremely heavy falls at isolated places are likely over Lakshadweep Islands and heavy to very heavy falls at an isolated place over Kerala during the next 48 hours. Heavy to very heavy falls at the isolated places are also likely over Tamil Nadu on October 30 and over coastal Karnataka on October 31," IMD said.

According to weathermen, this is one of the rare occasions when there were two back-to-back cyclones in the Arabian Sea.
Kyarr which was the strongest cyclone in the Arabian Sea in 12 years weakened into a ''severe cyclonic storm'' on Wednesday as it continues its movement towards the Oman coast.
