On Thursday, Gujarat recorded 371 positive cases of COVID-19 and 24 deaths. The state also recorded a dip in single-day cases after two consecutive days of close to 400 cases. However, the spurt in coronavirus positive cases in the state is driven by regions like Ahmedabad and Kutch.?
With fresh cases, Gujarat's tally has reached to 12,910 cases and death toll at 773.
Out of 12,910 total positive patients in Gujarat, 773 have died, 5488 have got discharged and 6649 are either hospitalized or under isolation. Out of those under hospitalisation, 52 are on ventilator.
Nearly 50 per cent of the total coronavirus infection deaths in Gujarat so far have been reported from the Ahmedabad civil hospital, earning it the dubious distinction of being the "COVID-19 graveyard".
As many as 351 patients succumbed to the disease in the Ahmedabad civil hospital located in Aswara area, as per the data shared by the city civic body, reported news agency Press Trust of India.
The main civil hospital, located in the Asarwa area, is considered as one of the biggest civic-run medical facilities in Asia. It has allotted 1,200 beds to treat COVID-19 patients.
Till Wednesday, 351 COVID-19 patients died at the civil hospital in Aswara while 338 have so far been discharged from there after recovery, according to data provided by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
Reports suggest the alarming death rate in the Civil Hospital, along with videos of apathy and shortage of doctors and nursing staff, there is a general apprehension among people.???
The data provided by the state government reveals that 5 per cent of of the total population in Gujarat put under containment, with numbers highest in Ahmedabad.
