37-year-old Nagaraj and his brother have been attending to their father's field. After losses, while cultivating paddy, they opted to grow Sammangi flowers which are used in making garlands for offerings in temples.?
The lockdown derailed all harvest plans.
Down on his luck, Nagaraj decided to cultivate sammangi once more. He used his son's bicycle and converted it into a plough.?
"I am using my son's bicycle. Without any means of food, I had no other option. So, I had to do this," he said.?
His 11-year-old son Dhanachezhiyan, who takes classes online, says he loves to farm.?
"When I bring food for my dad, I help him with ploughing. I hold and press and dad pulls the plough," he said.?
"We could not handle the situation. Hence, we invented this method. During the lockdown, we suffered a lot and this land is all we have now. Therefore, we cannot sell it," said Alex Pandian, Nagaraj's brother.?
