After four days of heavy rains, Bengaluru witnessed a clear sky day on Wednesday, bringing some much-needed relief to the battered city.
As the intensity of rains reduced on Wednesday, flood waters also receded from many parts of the city including the Outer Ring Road area clearing roads that had been inundated for days.
Police said flooded roads had cleared in the worst-hit areas with traffic returning to its usual level.
Water has also began receding from many apartments and gated communities that had remained cut off for days due to flooding.
This is some good news for vehicle owners who had to watch in horror their luxury cars and SUVs submerged in water, not knowing the extent of the damage caused to them.
Over the past few days, several videos and images had surfaced online showing entire parking lots filled with luxury cars, submerged in flood waters.
In one of the videos from Yemlur area cars could be seen parked in the submerged basement of an apartment.
In the video, dozens of cars could be seen standing as the basement is inundated due to heavy rainfall in the region in the last few days.
While owners may be eager to check on the condition of their cars, experts say that people should proceed with caution.
One of the most common mistakes car owners make in such cases is to check if the vehicle can be started. But according to automobile experts, doing this without a proper assessment will only cause more damage, including to the engine, especially if water has entered inside.
Water and accumulated dirt can also result in electrical components like lights and A/Cs malfunctioning.
One of the lesser known facts while dealing with flooded vehicles is that most insurances, by default don't cover the damages and experts suggest that you have to check with your insurer about what is included and what is not.
Even though water has started receding, the full extent of the damage caused by the floods will only become clear in a few days as many who could flee their submerged homes had fled.
According to official statistics, 85 regions and 2,000 houses in Bengaluru have been inundated due to heavy rain. A total of 1,500 sheds have also come under water, forcing the labourers to shift to safer places. 22,000 vehicles have been damaged and 30 apartments have been surrounded by flood water.
The two zones in Bengaluru's East, Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli, which house major IT companies, have been affected the most.
