Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is no stranger to legal challenges. In his political career spanning over two decades, the former Congress president has faced all kinds of allegations and civil and criminal cases.
But a recent case filed against the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha has left many shocked.
A man from Bihar has filed a complaint against Rahul in a local court, blaming him for the complainant suffering a loss of Rs 250.
According to the complainant, Mukesh Chaudhary, a resident of Bihar's Samastipur district, he was left shocked by Rahul's "fight against the Indian state" remark last week.
This, according to Chaudhary, resulted in him dropping a bucket of milk. Chaudhary said he was holding a bucket containing five litres of buffalo milk, worth Rs 50 per litre, when he heard Gandhi's speech on TV.
"I was in such a state of shock that my bucket full of five litres of milk, priced at Rs 50 per litre, slipped off my hand. Rahul Gandhi was threatening the sovereignty of the nation," alleged Chaudhary.
He has filed a petition in the civil court of Rosera sub-division, seeking trial of Gandhi under various BNS sections, including 152, which pertains to sedition.
Last week, Rahul had triggered a political controversy after claiming that Congress was fighting the "BJP, RSS and the Indian state itself".
"Do not think that we are fighting a fair fight. There is no fairness in this. If you believe that we are fighting a political organisation called the BJP, that we are fighting a political organisation called the RSS, you have not understood what is going on," Rahul said during the inauguration of the party¡¯s new headquarters at Kotla Road in New Delhi.
"The BJP and the RSS have captured every single institution of our country. We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS and the Indian state itself," he added.
