The CEO of a private company has been charged with allegedly raping a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) woman employed at his office, according to the police on Sunday.The incident reportedly occurred on September 14, 2023, at a five-star hotel in the Chanakyapuri district.
Following a complaint from the Indian-origin US citizen on Saturday night, an FIR has been filed against the accused under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code at the Chanakyapuri police station.
The complainant, who claimed to be working as an assistant general manager at the company where the accused served as the CEO, asserted that the man was acquainted with her uncle and had assisted her in securing the job.
Upon the woman's complaint, the Delhi Police initiated a case and conducted a medical examination of the survivor. Further investigation is underway based on the available evidence, as stated by officials.
In a similar case which took place in , a US woman, who arrived in India last year, was allegedly gangraped by two men in the capital city. The two men were later arrested and booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 376D (gangrape) and 376(2)(n) (repeatedly raping same woman).
The incident occurred on July 31 when the 44-year-old woman was alone. The accused came up to her and offered to share cigarettes and when she refused, they offered her alcohol.
When she became intoxicated, the men took her to a nearby vacant house on their bike where she was gangraped her repeatedly, news agency PTI quoted police as saying.
