According to the Indore police, there's no video of comedian Munawar Faruqui insulting Hindu deities, according to the Indian Express. This statement comes just 2 days after he was arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The alleged insults had been made while performing at a cafe.?
Kamlesh Sharma, the town inspector of Tukaganj Police Station, said that the video which the complainant had submitted showed a different comedian making jokes on Ganesh.?
There¡¯s no evidence against him for insulting Hindu deities or Union Minister Amit Shah,¡± he said.
Eklavya Singh Gaur, the chief of Hindutva group Hind Rakshak Sangathan reportedly submitted the complaint. He is the son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur. Faruqui has also been accused of making fun of the kar sevaks who were killed in the Godhra massacre of 2002.?
Other than Faruqui, 4 people were arrested. They are Nalin Yadav, Prakhar Vyas, Edwin Anthony and Priyam Vyas.?
All were booked under IPC sections 269 (unlawful or negligent act likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life) and 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs)
