The Gurugram Police arrested?two men allegedly smuggling cows to a slaughterhouse in Nuh after a group of cow vigilantes?chased the bovine and intercepted the truck.
The incident happened on the Mumbai Expressway on Tuesday night and the cow vigilantes rescued 34 head of cattle, including 10 dead animals, from the vehicle.?
The truck carrying them was reportedly intercepted after the cow vigilantes chased it for over 5km from Rajiv Chowk in Gurugram and ended after crossing Ghmaroj toll plaza.
In CCTV footage from Ghamroj Toll Plaza, the speeding truck is seen breaking through the boom barrier as it was being chased.
Following this, an FIR has been registered at the Bhondsi police station against the cattle smugglers under Sections 13(1) and 13 (2) of the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015.
"Two accused, identified as Mukesh and Mushtaq, were arrested. An FIR has been registered. We are questioning the duo," said Inspector Madan Singh, Station House Officer of Bhondsi.
"Further probe is underway. We are conducting raids to nab the other accused in this connection," he added.?
The rescued cows were later sent to a shelter in Silani village on Jhajjar road.
Videos of the chase have also been posted on social media by the cow vigilantes.
The video was posted on Instagram by a handle that goes by the name @monumanesar1. However, it is unclear if the account belongs to Monu Manesar, a murder-accused cow vigilante with several other cases registered against him.
While Police have confirmed that they received the information from the cow vigilantes, they did not clarify the extent of the group's involvement in the entire episode, including the chase.
That is because, per new orders by Haryana police, cow vigilantes are not allowed to chase or intercept any vehicles.?
The role of cow vigilantes as just informers were reiterated by the police following the abduction and murder of two men from Rajasthan by Monu Manesar's gang.
Nasir and Junaid alias Juna, both residents of Ghatmeeka village in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes on February 15.
Their bodies were found inside a burnt car in Loharu in Bhiwani in Haryana on the morning of February 16.
Rajasthan Police have so far arrested three people, Rinku Saini, Monu Rana alias Narendra and Gogi alias Monu in connection with the murders.
