The recent uptick in COVID-19 infections across India is reaching concerning levels as the country recorded a nearly 40 per cent rise in new cases in 24 hours.
In the past 24 hours, a total of 3016 new COVID cases were recorded in the country with a daily positive rate of 2.73 per cent, a government release said on Thursday.
This is the highest single-day rise in infections since October 2 last year, when a total of 3,375 cases were recorded.
On Wednesday, India had recorded 2151 COVID-19 infections, the highest in more than five months.?
Further, India's active caseload currently stands at 13,509 with a rate of 0.03 per cent per day and a recovery rate currently at 98.78 per cent. It stated that the weekly positivity rate stands at 1.71 per cent.
The country's COVID-19 death toll has increased to 5,30,862 with 14 latest fatalities -- three reported by Maharashtra, two from Delhi and one reported by Himachal Pradesh in a span of 24 hours and eight reconciled by Kerala.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,41,68,321, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.
In the past 24 hours, the national capital Delhi recorded 300 new COVID infections, against 214 cases reported on the previous day.
Two COVID-19-related deaths have also been reported in the same period.
The positivity rate of the city has risen to 13.79 per cent. The number of active cases stands at 806, out of which 452 patients are being treated in home isolation.
With 163 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries so far has gone to 19,82,029, while Delhi's total caseload is 20,09,361, and the death toll in the city has risen to 26,526.
In the wake of the rising COVID-19 cases in Delhi, the government has called an emergency meeting.
The Special Secretary, Health Department, Director of General Health Services, Nodal Officer for Oxygen and Testing and Medical Directors of several hospitals, including Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP), will be present in the meeting.
In neighbouring Haryana, the government has issued fresh guidelines and asked all health facilities to record travel history of a suspected case having travel history to a country or area where the virus has been reported.?
According to a state health department notification dated March 28, the Haryana Epidemic Disease, COVID-19 Regulation, 2020, have been extended till March 31, 2024, in continuation of previous regulation issued vide government order dated March 11, 2020.
Under the notification, the government issued fresh guidelines, which include all health facilities, including private ones, during screening of such cases shall record the travel history of the person if he/she has travelled to any country or area where Covid has been reported.
