A Special Cell of the Delhi Police is continuing its probe into a low-intensity blast near the Israeli embassy in the national capital on Friday.
An unheard entity, which calls itself Jaish-Ul-Hind has taken responsibility for the explosion that took place in the high-security zone of Delhi.
The name Jaish-Ul-Hind surfaced from a viral screenshot on messaging app Telegram.?
A half-burnt cloth and a polythene bag have been recovered from the site of the blast near the Israel Embassy, and is being examined by the authorized agencies.
However, a letter that was addressed to the Israeli Embassy and containing a note was found at the site of the blast is emerging as a key indicator in the case.
According to reports, in the letter, Friday's explosion has been referred to as a 'trailer'.
The killing of two Iranians has also been mentioned in the letter. The names mentioned as 'martyrs' in the letter are- Qasem Soleimani (Iranian military officer who served in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and was killed in a US airstrike in January 2020) and Mohsen Fakhrizadeh (Iranian nuclear scientist assassinated in November 2020).
"This is a trailer. We can end your life, anytime, anywhere. Iranian martyr..." the letter reads.
Based on this, the investigators are looking into possible Iranian hand in the blast and the police has asked the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) to share details of all Iranians settled overseas who came to Delhi in the last one month.
According to sources, police questioned some persons, including a few Iranian nationals and a cab driver who dropped two persons near the blast site just before the explosion.
"We have recovered some CCTV footage but have not obtained anything concrete yet as most of the CCTV cameras in the area near the embassy are non-functional," an official source told PTI.
"The investigating agencies are checking IPDR of the area to check whether the suspected persons used internet to communicate instead of call. They are also checking the CCTV footage of the nearby hotels," a source said.
The source said that dump data of mobile calls, which were active hours before and after the blast, are also examined.
They are collecting data from the cab services of the persons who were dropped in the nearby area of the spot just before the incident happened.
The minor blast took place on Friday evening in a high-security zone of the national capital.?
The explosion took place on a day when India and Israel marked the completion of the 29th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.
This is not the first time the Israeli mission in India has been targeted. In 2012 an Israeli embassy vehicle was targeted in Delhi, and the probe pointed to a possibility of involvement of Iranian agencies.
