In an ideal world, what to wear, and what not to should be the choice of the individual. But more often than not, people are 'forced' to make some adjustments to comply with the demands and expectations of others.
This is particularly true in the case of many married women, from whom their husbands or in-laws will decide what they should wear.
But the insistence of a man from Agra that his wife should be only sarees of his choice has ended up with her seeking divorce.
Deepak, a resident of Agra had married a woman from Hathras some eight months ago.
After the marriage, Deepak bought many sarees for his wife and asked her to wear them.
However, the wife, who wasn't pleased with the sarees chosen by her husband refused to wear them and insisted on wearing the ones she liked.
This soon led to constant fights between the couple and the marriage falling apart.
Initially, the couple sought counseling, but even the counselors failed to broker peace between them.
The families of the husband and wife also could not bring them back together.?
Following this the couple filed for divorce and they have also made police complaints against each other for alleged harassment.
The Family Court in Agra is expected to hear the divorce plea this month.
Recently a similar case had surfaced from the city where momos almost resulted in the collapse of a marriage.
It all began with the woman, who was used to having momos daily before marriage, expecting her husband to get the same after the wedding.
The husband, who worked in a shoe factory used to buy momos for his wife occasionally, but she insisted on having it every day.
Fight over momos led to the wife filing for divorce, but unlike in the dispute over the saree, Counsellors managed to save the marriage by bringing the couple to an agreement of having momos, twice a week.
