Young Liu, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Taiwanese technology giant Foxconn has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India.
Liu has been awarded the Padma Bhushan to recognize his contributions as a global business leader.
In fact, Liu is the first foreigner to be bestowed the Padma Bhushan.
The 68-year-old was appointed the chairman of Foxconn after the retirement of founder Terry Gou in 2019. Liu was the special assistant to former chairman Terry Gou and the head of business group S (semiconductor) before he became the CEO of the Taiwanese electronics contract manufacturer, established in 1974.
According to Foxconn's website, Liu oversees the company's global operations, encompassing over one million employees across 24 countries.
Liu is a recognised entrepreneur and innovator with over four decades of industry experience.
He has founded three companies-- a motherboard company in 1988 known as Young Micro Systems; a northbridge and southbridge IC design company in 1995 focused on the PC chipset and an ITE Tech and an ADSL IC design company, ITeX in 1997.
Liu earned an M.S. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1986 and a B.S. degree in Electrophysics from Taiwan's National Chiao Tung University in 1978.
Liu said he was honoured and thanked PM Modi for recognising him with Padma Bhushan.

Foxconn entered India in 2005 with its first manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur. Foxconn has since expanded its presence in India rapidly and the company already operates an iPhone factory in Tamil Nadu employing around 40,000 individuals.
