Incessant rains have lashed Mumbai in the last 24 hours bringing the economic capital of the country to a standstill. The ?India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of intermittent rain or showers with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places likely to occur in the city and suburbs.

Weather observatories have warned of enhanced rainfall in the next 48-72 hours with a high tide likely in the evening. Weathermen said that currently there are two weather systems which are active which is bringing in significant rainfall.
"There is an upper air circulation over South Rajasthan and neighbourhood owing to which there is cloudiness over the west coast. There is also a low-pressure area over south east of Odisha and neighbourhood. Both these systems are acting together indicating that a lot of rainfall activity. Further enhancement in the rain activity is expected for the next 48-72 hours," said K.S. Hosalikar, deputy director-general (western region), IMD, reported The Times Of India.
