On Monday, the police in Trichy, Tamil Nadu arrested 12 men for allegedly killing a jackal.According to reports, the men were arrested after an alert cop spotted a group of men at a tea stall with a suspicious-looking bag.Upon inspection, the cop found the body of the jackal and arrested the men.?
According to the police, all the arrested men are Narikuravars, an indigenous tribal group in the state.They had reportedly gone for honey hunting and on their way back they came across the animal and laid a trap for it.Like in the recent cases that had surfaced, the men planted an explosive-laden bait - this time covered in animal fat.The unsuspecting jackal bit the piece of meat and the explosive blew up inside its mouth, killing the animal on the spot.?

Last week there was another such incident in Kerala where a pregnant elephant was killed after it accidentally bit a trap that was laid for wild boars.Following the shock and outcry, authorities in Kerala launched a massive manhunt for the culprits and has so far arrested one man, who confessed to the crime.The accused, identified as Wilson admitted that the explosive was planted inside a coconut to kill wild boars.Two of his accomplices, the owners of the estate where the incident happened are still on the run.?
In a similar incident, a pregnant cow was left badly injured on its face after biting on a wheat flour dough which had explosives hidden inside.Based on the complaint by the cow's owner Gurdial Singh, police in Bilaspur district arrested his neighbour Nand Lal Dhiman for injuring the animal.In the Himachal Pradesh incident too, it is believed that the cow had accidentally taken the bait, which was meant for nilgais.?
A couple of days ago there was another incident in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, where a lawyer killed a stray dog after it inadvertently entered his house.In a police complaint, the neighbour of the accused alleged that the lawyer and his family used bamboo sticks and an iron spade to thrash the dog which died before it could be taken to the hospital.
