An Indian-origin man who spent three years travelling across the country has claimed that the facilities and infrastructure in India are worse than some poor countries in Asia. In a Reddit post, the British Indian tourist said, "India is a dump, and Indians objectively treat it like a dump."
The Reddit user, who goes by the name Odd_Imagination_6306, said that he came to India at the peak of Covid, driven by wanderlust, and stayed in the country for three years.
Reflecting on his experiences in India, he said: "As much as Indians would love to be splashed in praise, there is a hard truth to India which no Indian wants to hear, especially not if it's not balanced out with some sort of positivity to offset the negative comments 每 India is a dump, and Indians objectively treat it like a dump."
"The roads suck, the infrastructure is crumbling, every other corner is riddled with filth, and there is no such thing as civic sense out there 每 the poverty gap is astounding, and it's becoming more expensive to live in than other better and well-developed nations in Asia now," he wrote.

According to the Reddit user, hotels were ripping off foreign tourists and offering subpar service compared to other countries.
He also pointed out the poor upkeep of the heritage monuments in India. "Heritage is completely neglected, with graffiti, yellow spit, and rotting food soiling the architecture that Indians claim to be so proud of, where even getting as much as a slight explanation on what it is that I'm looking at becomes a chargeable activity," he noted.
Recalling his experience of talking to locals about the infrastructural challenges in India, he said while some agreed, others became defensive.
"When you bring up these criticisms of India, locals either strongly agree or are in the camp of, 'we just got our independence, we are still a baby nation,'" he said.

The Redditor, who is currently in Vietnam, said he wanted to love India, but he can't. "I'm just done with India, and trust me, I tried to give it a chance. As a British Indian myself, I really wanted to love India 每 I can't," he wrote.
