With India-Pakistan clash in Asia Cup scheduledto take place this evening at Dubai International?Cricket?Stadium,the Jammu & Kashmir Student Association (JKSA), a Kashmiri student¡¯s body hasissued an advisory urging the students hailing from the state and studying atdifferent universities to stay away from any social media posts.
JKSA national spokesperson Nasir Khuehami issued the advisory on Saturday asking the students to take it as just another game and stay away from trouble.
¡°We have urged Kashmiri students studyingat different universities all over the nation to have their priority set fortheir education and career for which they have travelled to different parts ofthe nation from their home state of Jammu and Kashmir,¡± said Khuehami, whiletalking to the Hindustan Times.
¡°These students need to take sports as agame and stay away from social media posts, during and after the match, whichmight create any kind of indiscipline at any institution across the country orland them in trouble,¡± he said.
¡°They should not get involved inunnecessary debates, discussions or social media chat and should enjoy the gamewith true sportsman spirit,¡± Khuehami appealed.
Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are all set for a T20 cricket match today and it is expected to be a high-voltage match.
Last year in October, Babar Azam ledPakistan defeated India by 10 wickets, following which a few students fromKashmir were arrested for uploading pro-Pakistan posts on social media.
¡°Out of three Kashmiri students studyingat Agra, who were booked for making objectionable social media posts, only oneis continuing his studies for engineering and two have returned home leavingstudies in between after being released on bail from Agra District Jail on May26, 2022,¡± Khuehami said.
The National Institute of Technology (NIT)in Srinagar has asked its students not to watch Sunday¡¯s India-Pakistan AsiaCup cricket clash in groups or post anything related to the match on socialmedia platforms.
In a notice issued by the dean of student¡¯s welfare, the institute administration has asked the students to remain in their allotted rooms during the match.
¡°Students are aware that a cricket seriesinvolving various nations is going on in the Dubai International Stadium.Students are hereby directed to take sports as a game and do not create anykind of indiscipline in the institute/hostel,¡± the notice read.
¡°If there is a group of students watchingthe match in a particular room, then the students to whom that particular roomis allotted will be debarred from the institute hostel accommodation and a fineof at least Rs 5,000 will be imposed on all the students involved,¡± it said.
