The South Indian filter kaapi also known as filter coffee has been named among the best coffees in the world.
According to the recently released 'Top 38 Coffees In The World' ranking by TasteAtlas, a popular food and travel guide platform, Indian Filter Coffee is ranked second in the list.
According to the list, Cafe Cubana aka Cuban Espresso is the top-ranked coffee in the world.
The pre-sweetened espresso that originated in Cuba is also referred to as Cuban coffee, Cuban pull, or Cuban shot.
TasteAtlas noted that the brewing technique of Indian filter coffee which has a filter consisting of two chambers results in a richly-flavored, full-bodied coffee that is usually mixed with milk and sweetened with sugar.
"Sometimes, the combination of coffee and warm milk is continuously poured from one vessel to another until it is aerated and becomes frothy," it noted adding that the coffee is traditionally served in a tumbler with an accompanying saucer.
Both the Cuban coffee and filter coffee have a rating of 4.5 stars.
The Indian filter coffee is followed by Espresso freddo and Freddo cappuccino, both from Greece, while Cappuccino from Italy was at the fifth spot.
Turkish Coffee (Turkiye), Ristretto (Italy), Frappe (Greece) Eiskaffee (Germany) and Vietnamese Iced Coffee (Vietnam) also made it to the top ten.
The rankings are based on the ratings of the TasteAtlas audience For the ¡°Top 38 Coffees in the World¡± list until February 06, 2024, 3,701 ratings were recorded from across the world.
Coffee has a long history in India and is predominantly grown in three south Indian states - Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Kudagu (Coorg) in Karnataka where the coffee plantation was introduced in India in the 1600s still accounts for more than 30 per cent of the country's produce.
