India¡¯s first hydrogen train to launch soon: India is set to launch its first hydrogen-powered train by March 2025, marking a significant advancement in sustainable transportation. It has surpassed existing models from countries like Germany and China that typically range from 500 to 600 horsepower.
The train will consist of 8 passenger coaches, accommodating over 2,500 passengers, along with 2 dedicated coaches for hydrogen cylinders. It is designed to reach speeds of up to 110 kilometres per hour. The project is part of a larger initiative by Indian Railways, which has allocated ?2,800 crore for the development of 35 hydrogen fuel cell-based trains as part of its goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
The first trials are scheduled to take place on the 89-kilometer Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana, with expectations for initial operations to begin soon after testing concludes.?
