India¡¯s first hydrogen train to launch soon: India is set to launch its first hydrogen-powered train by March 2025, marking a significant advancement in sustainable transportation. This train, developed by the Integral Coach Factory, boasts a remarkable power output of 1,200 horsepower, making it the most powerful hydrogen train in the world. It has surpassed existing models from countries like Germany and China that typically range from 500 to 600 horsepower.
The train will consist of 8 passenger coaches, accommodating over 2,500 passengers, along with 2 dedicated coaches for hydrogen cylinders. It is designed to reach speeds of up to 110 kilometres per hour. The project is part of a larger initiative by Indian Railways, which has allocated ?2,800 crore for the development of 35 hydrogen fuel cell-based trains as part of its goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
The first trials are scheduled to take place on the 89-kilometer Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana, with expectations for initial operations to begin soon after testing concludes.?
