A report by NDTV states a surprising revelation during a check at a Zomato warehouse on October 29. Food safety officials discovered 18 kilos of button mushrooms marked as packaged for October 30, 2024¡ªessentially giving these mushrooms a future packaging date.
This shocking discovery took place at Zomato's Hyperpure warehouse in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, which operates as a licensed Food Business Operator (FBO).?
FBOs are responsible for supplying a wide range of products¡ªincluding fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, gourmet items, packaging materials, consumables, and kitchen equipment¡ªto hotels, restaurants, and catering services.?
This extensive network plays a crucial role in ensuring that businesses receive quality ingredients and supplies for their operations.
However, the recent inspection revealed alarming issues that raise serious concerns about food safety. In addition to the astonishing future packaging date, officials also observed house flies buzzing around the warehouse.?
They noted that the facility lacked adequate insect-proof screens, which are essential for maintaining hygiene.?
Furthermore, several food handlers were found not wearing the required hair nets or aprons, further compromising food safety standards.
These troubling findings come on the heels of a raid by a task force back in June, which inspected a Blinkit warehouse (owned by Zomato) in Devar Yamjal, located in the Medchal Malkajgiri District near Hyderabad.?
That investigation had uncovered unsanitary conditions, expired products, and food that was potentially infested, among numerous other health and safety violations.?
Such recurring issues highlight the pressing need for stricter adherence to hygiene protocols and improved oversight within the food supply chain to protect consumers' health.
As per a HT report, Zomato has not responded to the findings yet.
