Ernst & Young (EY), one of the Big Four accounting firms in the world, is battling an unprecedented reputational crisis in India following the death of Anna Sebastian Perayil, a 26-year-old employee, who allegedly died due to work-related stress. Ever since a letter Anna's mother wrote to EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani, blaming the company and their apathy for her death, made its way to social media, many ex-employees have also come forward to describe in detail the toxic work culture there.
Amit Vijayvargia, a Dubai-based Chartered Accountant, feels that the ongoing crisis EY India and Memani are facing is 'karma hitting back'.
"This is now proved that karma really hits back Rajiv Memani and EY," Vijayvargia wrote on LinkedIn.
According to his post, Vijayvargia, who used to work as a Senior Consultant with EY India, was forced to quit.
"Last year, I was bullied and harassed. I was forced to resign from my position as Senior Consultant in EY India, Mumbai office. I was shown as if I did not have any knowledge or potential to work," Vijayvargia wrote.
He said that despite emailing about the issues he was facing to Memani and Rohit Agarwal, he did not get any response.
Vijayvargia, whose case is pending with the Labour Department, suggested that Memani should be more proactive and take action, rather than waking up when someone dies.
He ended the post suggesting: "Your tagline should be: Building a better graveyard together with Managers."
Vijayvargia told Indiatimes that he is yet to receive his relieving letter from EY India, due to which he is unable to accept other job offers.
"EY is unlawfully holding off by relieving the letter, which caused me to deny the job offers that I received from companies in Dubai. My candidature has been blocked from Big Four and Fortune 500 companies. I became a CA with hard work, but now I am living the life of a beggar. I feel that they have killed my career is finished. I have just life now. However, I will not quit until I win," he said.
Responding to the recent backlash, Memani, in a LinkedIn post has promised to make the well-being of EY employees his topmost priority.
