Work pressure took a 26-year-old EY employee's life and the news shook the nation. Anna Sebastian, who was a new joiner at EY's Pune office, succumbed to a stressful work life on the way to the hospital after fainting in her room. Sebastian's passing caused a commotion on social media about toxic workplaces, and now her cousin?Dr Mithun James has shared what a workday in her life looked like.?
In an emotional post titled "A personal recollection of Anna¡¯s last few months with us" on LinkedIn, Sebastian's cousin Dr Mithun James highlighted what a workday in her life looked like.
According to the post, Anna was thrilled to join one of the "Big 4" and arrived in Pune in March of this year. James then helped her find a place in the city she was new to. During her time in Pune, her cousin met "her only once."?
In the post, the cousin highlights a "firsthand" experience of what a workday in her life looked like. Sebastian was up by 4 AM checking on "a few reports."
By 9 AM, she was ready for work and would leave for office. "By 9 AM, she was ready for office, after speaking to her parents, she left for the office in tears. That day, her parents were returning to Kerala. Post 10 PM, we urged her to call an Uber and come home to say goodbye to her parents. Her response struck me¡ªshe was still at the office, too afraid to ask if she could leave. She finally managed to come and meet them after 11 PM. It was clear just how much time she was clocking for work," the cousin shares.
Sometimes she would come back from the office even at 1 AM, leaving her utterly exhausted. "She was working every single day, including weekends, often returning to her room as late as 1 AM, only to wake up early to complete unfinished tasks. There was no concept of overtime pay or compensatory leave for weekend work, and she, being new to corporate life, was unaware of such policies," cousin wrote in the post.?
