96-year-old Karthyayani Amma from Kerala who made headlines after she became the oldest ever candidate to appear for the Kerala Literacy Mission's Akshara Laksham (Million Letters) literacy exam has been selected as the Commonwealth of Learning Goodwill Ambassador.
The story of the grandmother from Neyyattinkara in Alappuzha District who cleared the exam scoring 98 marks out of 100 will now inspire others in the Commonwealth countries.

Karthyayani Amma who used to work as a domestic help did not have a chance to get any formal education.

But she enrolled for the literacy programme, inspired by her daughter and excelled in studies including reading, writing, and mathematics skills.? ??
After clearing her literacy test with flying colours exam, Karthyayani Amma has set her next aim to clear the Class X equivalent.?
In the meantime, she has also started learning computer, on a laptop which was gifted to her by the Kerala Education Minister.
